Some devices may stop supporting WhatsApp in the coming months. According to WABetaInfo, iPhone devices running operating systems 10 and 11 will need to be updated to launch WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is dropping the support for specific iOS versions to enable the latest features enabled on the messaging platform. According to the source, the update would also include the most recent security updates.

The report included a screenshot of a WhatsApp warning letter stating that “WhatsApp will discontinue supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 after October 24, 2022,” which was sent out to iPhone customers who were using both versions of the operating system.

On iPhones with an OS older than 12, WhatsApp will not function. Earlier, WhatsApp informed its customers that in order to continue using the service, iPhone users would need iOS 12 or newer. Only the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c devices will be impacted by this change as of right now. These two iPhone models are no longer in production because their sales have been halted for several years.
