India received the SCO Presidency in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Chinese President Xi Jinping had earlier in the day congratulated India on hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit the next year and pledged China’s support for India’s presidency.

Since the border standoff between China and India widened after the tragic clash, Xi and Modi haven’t actually met with one another until now.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, and the leaders of numerous central Asian nations are also present at the meeting. Leaders of the permanent members of the grouping posed for a group portrait before the discussions at the summit’s restricted format. Modi was welcomed with open arms by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, at the summit’s location.

The growth of the SCO and the furthering of varied and mutually beneficial collaboration within the Organization are among the topics Modi said he looked forward to discussing at the SCO Summit. A lot of decisions for bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, culture, and tourism are likely to be implemented under the Uzbek chairship, he said.
