The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Tuesday that a possible low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal might become a cyclone by the weekend. Over the following 48 hours, a low-pressure region is predicted to develop over the southeast and adjacent to the eastcentral Bay of Bengal, according to the report. By the morning of October 22 over central Bay of Bengal, it is likely to travel westwards and concentrate into a depression. Subsequently, it is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm over west-central BoB (Bay of Bengal).

Although the depression is likely to become well-marked and develop into a storm, neither the intensity of the system nor its course have been predicted, according to IMD Director-General Mrutunjay Mohapatra. Only after a low-pressure region has formed, “we may disclose additional details of the cyclone,” he said. In light of the forecast, the Odisha government cancelled the leaves of its employees from October 23 to October 25. The state has also issued a notice to its coastal districts.
