Six people have been detained in connection with the death of two minor sisters who belonged to the scheduled caste community and were discovered hanging from a tree on Wednesday night within the boundaries of the Nighasan police station in the Lakhimpur Kheri district.
Chhotu Gautam, a local villager, and five youngsters from a nearby hamlet have been arrested in connection with the case, according to SP Lakhimpur Kheri Sanjiv Suman. Junaid, Sohail, Hafezul Rehman, Karimudeen, and Adil, residents of the nearby Lalpur hamlet, were among the five others.
The girls were raped and murdered by Sohail and Hafeezul Rehaman, with Chhotu serving as a facilitator, according to a police official briefing the media on the arrests and the series of occurrences. According to the authorities, Junaid and Sohail were the objects of the girls’ affections.
Kareemudeen and Adil, the other two defendants, assisted the other three in disposing of the bodies. According to reports, during the police encounter, Junaid was wounded in the right leg as retaliation.
