Hilaree Nelson, a well-known American ski mountaineer, went missing in Nepal on Monday after skiing down Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world, according to reports. Nelson vanished the same day an avalanche killed a climber from Nepal on the peak she was crossing. After successfully summiting Manaslu with her partner Jim Morrison, the event is believed to have occurred as Nelson was skiing down.
“Yesterday, as she was descending from her summit, she had an accident. We are attempting to clarify what occurred, “A trek administrator who had organized the expedition was quoted by the news agency AFP as saying.
According to the Nepali authorities, an avalanche on Monday struck Camps 3 and 4 on the 8,163-meter (26,781-foot) peak and killed one climber from his country while wounding a dozen others. Due to the poor weather, which has included continuous rain and snow, the rescue mission has been extremely difficult.
A helicopter has been despatched to the scene of Nelson’s accident, according to Jiban Ghimire of Shangri-La Nepal Treks, who revealed this as the weather improved on Tuesday.
Morrison, a skier who was with Nelson, is okay and has been with the search and rescue crew, Ghimire continued. The trekking business stated on Tuesday, “We are in contact with Hilaree’s family and aiding search and rescue efforts in any way we can”.
According to reports, the 49-year-old is “the most prolific ski mountaineer of her generation.” She made history in 2012 when she was the first woman to conquer Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and its neighbor Lhotse in the same day.
